Won-Door FireGuard Applications

The Won-Door FireGuard™ System

The Won-Door FireGuard™ system, featuring 24-gauge corrugated steel panels and a 6-8 inch dead air space with a fire-protective liner, provides enhanced fire safety. For over 20 years, Won-Door’s FireGuard has led the market in fire safety design, consistently exceeding all three model building codes through rigorous testing. In many projects, Won-Door FireGuard systems have proven to be the only practical solutions that meet code requirements.

FireGuard’s design is approved by the US model building codes and the IBC for almost unrestricted use in egress applications. Additionally, FireGuard doors are UL-listed for up to 3 hours as a fire door. These doors are also recognized by many state and local governments.

The tight-fitting floor sweep and fire liner provide excellent seals, effectively blocking both smoke and toxic fumes. The doors meet code requirements for “tight-fitting smoke and draft control” as demonstrated through special testing.

Patented Design Features
FireGuard’s patented track-and-trolley system supports each panel with a separate pin and roller, evenly distributing the weight and ensuring a tight fit. This unique design allows for unlimited width and height coverage up to 23 feet.

Curved Opening Applications
The Won-Door FireGuard™ system offers a unique capability that sets it apart from standard fire-rated doors – the ability to be specified for curved openings. With a minimum radius of just 5 feet, the FireGuard system can be installed in architectural designs that previously would have been unable to accommodate a fire-rated door.

No Floor Track
The FireGuard system provides effective smoke and draft control without the need for a floor track.

Out of Sight When Not in Use
FireGuard™ doors are highly effective fire and smoke barriers that can fold to mere inches thick, allowing them to blend seamlessly into the surrounding decor when installed as pocket doors.

Automatic Operation in Event of a Fire
If a smoke alarm is triggered, the system can be programmed to automatically close using a fail-safe backup DC power supply.

Disability Access & Manual Override
The FireGuard’s pressure-sensitive leading edge immediately halts door closure upon contact with an obstruction. It then pauses briefly before resuming closure. Users can override the automatic operation at any time. Additionally, fire-exit hardware can be installed to open the door a preset width, pause, and then close the door with each activation.

Centralized Control
The wall-mounted control unit allows door status to be monitored remotely from a central location. At a glance, you can check the position, control function, and status of the backup DC power supply.

Typical Won-Door FireGuard Applications

Use of the Won-Door FireGuard system has become a reliable and practical approach to solving a vast array of fire safety issues:

  • ADA Compliance
  • Area Separation
  • Atrium Separation
  • Corridor Separation
  • Elevator Lobby Separation
  • Horizontal Exits
  • Occupancy Separation
  • Safe Areas of Refuge

  • Stage Proscenium Protective
  • Vertical Opening Protective

Moveable Fire Wall (MFW)

The Won-Door FireGuard™ system has a special fire-resistive rating called a “Moveable Fire Wall” that is awarded after testing to ASTM E-119 standards. Unlike traditional fire doors, Moveable Fire Walls are required to maintain a “low back-face temperature” during the test, with the average of all thermocouples not exceeding 250°F above ambient temperature. This unique specification allows architects to protect large openings that would otherwise be restricted by standard fire door size limitations. As a result, Moveable Fire Walls offer more design flexibility compared to typical fire door applications.

Durability
Each 24-gauge steel panel in a Won-Door partition is corrugated for extra strength. The surface colors and vinyl finishes are permanently bonded to resist dings, dents, and scratches. Won-Door partitions operate on a patented two-track system with no internal parts that can be damaged.
The dead-air space between the two walls creates an effective sound barrier and cushions against even severe impacts. A Won-Door door can withstand tremendous abuse without showing any marks or scratches. These partitions are available in a wide variety of colors and simulated wood grain finishes.

Easily Installation and Repair
Won-Door partitions can be easily installed by trained personnel using simple tools, without the need for any special equipment. Additionally, in-house maintenance staff can quickly repair damaged parts, such as panels, hinges, or rollers, by simply removing and replacing the individual component while the door remains in place. This “in-place” repair capability is unique to the Won-Door partition system. To facilitate these repairs, a spare section of track is provided, allowing panel sections to be removed and replaced without disturbing the rest of the partition.

WON-DOOR FIREGUARD MFW (MOVABLE FIRE WALL)

Won-Door FireGuard's Moveable Fire Wall

The Won-Door FireGuard’s Moveable Fire Wall offers a distinct fire-resistive rating that can be used as an alternative to traditional fire barriers when building codes limit the size of penetrations. Designed to meet ASTM E-119 standards, the Moveable Fire Wall allows protection for large openings that would otherwise be restricted by code requirements.

The Won-Door FireGuard MFW (Movable Fire Wall) is U.L. certified to meet the ANSI/UL263 (ASTM E119) criteria. This provides a viable solution when building codes limit the size of openings in a fire barrier.

The FireGuard MFW is available in the following U.L. ratings: MFWI (1-hour) or MFWII (2-hour). 2021 IBC – 707 Fire Barriers. 707.6 Exception 3:  Openings shall not be limited to 156 square feet (15m²) or an aggregate width of 25 percent of the length of the wall where the opening protective has been tested in accordance with ASTM E119 or UL 263 and has a minimum fire-resistance rating not less than the fire-resistance rating of the wall.*Increased custom heights & widths available with AHJ approval.
