Smoke & Fire Containment Barriers
Perla High Rise Tower Case Study
“Perla Tower” AKA 400 S. Broadway @ Historical DTLA
A deep look at how Door Systems successfully brought this iconic project from design to grand opening.
SCG America is the first modern developer to break ground in the historical LA Broadway District with their new modern classic tower, Perla on Broadway. A perfect blend of new and old comes to life with the help of Architects Callison RTKL, interior design by (HBA) Hirsch Bedner Associates, and constructed by the OCLA Team @ Swinerton Builders.
Door Systems had the pleasure of joining the design team in the early stages of development. The goal was to ensure the art deco boutique luxury feel of the building was not disrupted by unpleasant Fire Doors and Smoke Containment Systems.
Door Systems Scope of Work:
- Qty. of 12 DSI- C1HR Smoke and Fire Curtains™ for the Atrium
- Qty. of 37 DSI- 600 Smoke Containment Systems™ for the Service Elevator
- Qty. of 12 Double Egress Pairs of Syntégra™ Integrated Fire Doors for the Corridors
- Qty. of 35 Pairs of Syntégra™ Integrated Fire Doors for the Elevator Lobby
The heart of the tower and considerably the most used common space at Perla Tower is the atrium that spans four stories. The challenge was to create an aesthetically pleasing solution using Smoke Curtains and Integrated Fire Doors. The UL rated oversize smoke curtains were essential to a smoke free environment, allowing the occupants to reach one of the three exit staircases available.
Two critical locations needed to provide a secondary form of egress for the amenity space it served. This was achieved by providing independently control smoke curtains to those respected locations without openings the rest of the smoke barriers.
